Today Greenhut’s environmental and climate literacy officer Memory Masakara and our interns had the opportunity to participate in the Gender and climate change forum held at the Bulawayo Club. Amidst the climate crisis, women as the primary care givers face the harsh impacts of climate change daily. Key stakeholders present had the opportunity to cross pollinate and come up with solutions for the gender and climate issues. BCC mentioned how they are working with youth organizations such as Greenhut Trust through the Bloomberg grant to help create awareness on climate change in communities around Bulawayo. . There’s need to for awareness raising amongst communities on the gender and climate change nexus and CSOs have a strong role to play in crafting gender responsive programming. At the beginning of the year, our organization rolled out an initiative on Gender Champions to bridge the knowledge gap and increase women’s access to climate education. The initiative seeks to increase women’s adaptive capacity at grassroots level.
